Nature and mental health - art and nature as a refuge

This week, Louder Than The Storm is excited to showcase a piece of work by artist and environmental writer Leah Bennett, who was inspired to explore how identity interacts with our natural surroundings as part of an ongoing call for submissions on the same theme.

Our bodies, our minds, and nature are co-existing parts of our identity.

‘The idea that our bodies, our minds, and nature are co-existing parts of our identity inspired me to create this piece in the hope of showing how our identity and nature are intertwined. Therefore when we are looking after nature, we are also looking after ourselves. I find comfort in this idea as nature can be a refuge from the burdens of everyday life and for this reason whenever I’m feeling stressed, I try to submerge myself in nature by going for a walk or doing something to contribute to its well-being, even if that’s as simple as planting a few flowers.’
